First Time at a Strip Club? A No-Judgement Guide to Your First Night

Almost everyone is a little nervous the first time. You don’t know the rules, you don’t want to look like you don’t know the rules, and you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do once you’re inside. That’s normal, and it’s exactly why Alley Katz works the way it does.
This guide walks you through a first night at Alley Katz in downtown Windsor, from the door to last call. No question is a bad question here, so if something isn’t covered, just ask us on the night.
Before you go
- Age: you must be 19 or older. Ontario’s legal age is 19, not 18. Anyone who looks under 30 is asked for valid government photo ID, so bring it.
- When: Friday and Saturday, 8 PM–3 AM. No booking or phone call is needed. Just walk in.
- Cover: $10 per person, or $5 each for couples.
- Dress code: men need at least a half-sleeve t-shirt, knee-length shorts or longer, and shoes (no flip-flops).
- Money: there’s an ATM on-site, and we take all major credit and debit cards plus Canadian and US cash.
Step 1: The greeter introduces you
This is the part that makes Alley Katz different from a typical club. There’s always a greeter on shift, and their whole job is to welcome guests, explain how the night works and introduce you to dancers. A lot of our guests are young, new or shy, and walking up to a stranger isn’t everyone’s strength. Let the greeter do it for you.
Step 2: Grab a seat and a drink
Our stage is only 6 inches off the floor, the lowest stage in North America, with leather couches right at its edge. Sit stage-side if you want to be in the middle of it, or settle into the lounge if you’d rather watch for a while first. Order something from the bar; we’re known for a more premium cocktail list than most clubs.
Step 3: Watch the stage shows
Each dancer performs a 3-song set on stage, around 9 minutes. After 10 PM the shows run back-to-back, and every dancer is on stage at least four times a night, so there’s no rush.
Step 4: Tipping at the stage
If you’re sitting at the stage while a dancer performs, it’s customary to tip. The standard is US $1 bills. You don’t need to bring them: the bar exchanges US and Canadian dollars and sells US singles. Buying US $1 bills with Canadian cash includes a service fee of roughly 10–15%.
Step 5: Dances (only if you want one)
Nobody has to buy a dance. If you’d like one, ask the greeter to introduce you or simply say hi to a dancer between sets. Across North American clubs, dances generally run about $20 per song, with no set limit on how many songs, always based on the entertainer’s consent. Private dances happen in our separate VIP area, which has 8 private seats and a premium of about $20 for access.
Etiquette in one minute
- Respect “no”. Dancers set their own boundaries. Follow them, and follow the house rules.
- Ask before assuming. Not sure what’s okay? Ask. Staff would much rather answer a question than fix a mistake.
- No photos or video of dancers or other guests. Discretion is part of what makes the room comfortable.
- Be friendly. Dancers are people you can talk to. A little conversation goes a long way.
- Get home safe. Plan your ride. There’s street parking out front and a municipal parking garage about 20 yards east if you’re the designated driver.
You’ll be fine
One guest put it well in a Google review: it was their first time at a strip club, they were nervous, and by the end of the night they knew it wouldn’t be their last. That’s the goal. Come in, let us show you around, and enjoy yourself.
