Celebrating Your 19th in Windsor: Legal Age, ID and a First Night Out

In Ontario, 19 is the big one. It’s the legal age to drink, and the age you can walk into a licensed club like Alley Katz. We host 19th birthdays almost every weekend, for men and women, and they’re some of the most fun nights in the room.
Why 19 (and not 18 or 21)?
Ontario’s legal drinking age is 19. Because Alley Katz is a licensed venue, 19 is also our minimum age for entry. There’s no under-19 night, and no exceptions.
Across the river, Michigan’s legal drinking age is 21. That’s why plenty of 19- and 20-year-olds from the Detroit area make their first legal night out a trip to downtown Windsor. We’re a short walk from the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel.
Bring the right ID
- Anyone who looks under 30 is asked for valid government photo ID, and on your 19th birthday, that’s you.
- Bring the original, not a photo of it. Expired or damaged ID can be refused.
- Crossing from the US? You’ll need a passport, passport card, NEXUS card or enhanced driver’s licence to enter Canada and to get home again.
How to celebrate a 19th at Alley Katz
- Just walk in. Friday and Saturday, 8 PM–3 AM. No booking or phone call is needed, even for a group. Cover is $10 per person, or $5 each for couples.
- Tell the staff it’s a birthday. Our greeter will help seat your group, and the DJ loves a birthday shout-out.
- First time? Don’t stress. Our greeter introduces guests to dancers and explains how everything works. Read our first-timer’s guide before you go.
- Bring a group of 20+? Take over the entire club on a Wednesday or Thursday, with 8+ dancers, a DJ and your own bar team.
- Want bottle service? Our VIP packages cover groups of up to 10.
Celebrate responsibly
A first legal night out should be one you remember. Eat before you go (we don’t serve food, but you’re welcome to order in), pace the drinks, and sort your ride home in advance. If someone’s driving, there’s street parking right out front and a municipal garage about 20 yards east.
Happy 19th. We’ll see you on Chatham Street.
